The Franklin County Wildcats season came to a close on Wednesday night as they fell to the South Dearborn Knights by a final score of 15-0. The Knights came out hitting the ball hard and all over the field and jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. In the whole game the Knights recorded 12 hits, while scoring 15 runs, many of those coming because of the Wildcats mistakes on defense.
Overall in the game the Wildcats had 4 errors, which gave the Knights extra opportunities that they were able to take advantage of. Defensive mistakes have plagued the Wildcats all season, and the first round of sectionals weren’t any different from that.
Michaela Ferman pitched for the Wildcats and was tasked with trying to hold down the Knights high powered offense. Unfortunately, the defensive mistakes forced Kay Kay to throw extra pitches and give the Knights more opportunities to score, which they took advantage of. Ferman’s final pitching line was 5 innings, 12 hits, 3 walks, 15 runs (6 earned), and 4 strikeouts.
Offensively, the Wildcats did put some pressure on the Knights throughout the game, but they could never string multiple hits together to score any runs. Some of the Wildcats were hitting line drives, but they just happened to be right where the defense was positioned.
Abby Orschell: 1-3 (Single)
Camryn Brewer: 1-2 (Single)
Makaylee Woods: 1-2 (Single)

With the loss, Franklin County finishes its season with a 9-18 overall record. The Wildcats will miss their two seniors, Abby Orschell & Morgan Bare. Both have had great careers, and will be very successful in their future endeavors!
