Franklin County Wildcats Junior Varsity Falls in Season Finale 2-1
In their best defensive game of the season, the Wildcats bats just couldn’t find the holes to score the runs they needed. Franklin County’s JV fell to Greensburg on Thursday night by a final score of 2-1. Both teams had tremendous pitching and great defense to back them up.
Greensburg picked up their first run in the top of the first inning when Cooney reached on an error and later scored on a RBI single off the bat of Bray. That gave the Pirates the early 1-0 lead.
Both teams would scatter hits in the second and third, but not string anything together to score until the final inning in the fourth.
Greensburg got their first base runner in the top of the fourth when Schoettmer reached on an error. She would advance to second on a ground out to the pitcher and come around to score off a RBI double from the bat of Whiton. That made the score 2-0 heading into the Wildcats final at bat.
Unfortunately, Franklin County would only be able to muster one run. Sarah Bare led off the inning with a lead off walk. She would advance to third after back-to-back ground outs. Then Bare would score off of a wild pitch to give the Wildcats their one run of the day. Greensburg would record the final out and end the game by a final score of 2-1.
Phillips took the win for Greensburg. She surrendered one run on four hits over four innings, striking out five and walking one.
