Franklin County Varsity Wildcats were able to get a very exciting win Saturday night for the Wildcats Senior night. The night ended with excitement and joy but it did not start that way. The Wildcats gave up 22 first quarter points and 16 second quarter points. Switzerland County was on pace for 76 points at half time. The Wildcats made adjustments and came out and competed harder the second half. The Wildcats proved they can play defense by allowing only 5 points in the third quarter but it would still take a big fourth quarter for the Wildcats to win. The Wildcats scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to be able to win the game. The fourth quarter is when all the excitement happened. It was a back and forth struggle between the two teams late in the fourth. The Wildcats had huge made baskets by Sophomore Chad Cox down the stretch and FC was able to foul the right people for Switz to miss key free throws that gave the Wildcats the chance at the end. The clock read 6 seconds left when Switz was shooting a one and one. The score was 56-55. Switz missed the front end of the one and one. Chad Cox grabbed the rebound and immediately started driving right down the gut of Switz defense like he was doing all night, he was able to draw several defenders his way and he rose up looking like a shot but kicked the ball out to fellow sophomore and elementary school team mate Aden Gerrian. Aden was spotted up in the corner wide open, he took the shot with confidence and it rattled in winning the game as time expired. The Wildcat team stormed Aden. It was a terrific night.
Chad Cox led the team with 22 points.
Freshman Brant Ertel had 11 points.
Aden Gerrian had 9 points including the game winner.
Our lone senior play Drew Dixon ended his senior night with 6 points that came from two big threes.
