Wildcats News · Franklin County Athletics Announces Re Entry Plan


Franklin County Athletic Department is excited to announce our return to sports plan.  We are thrilled to have our student-athletes back together in the near future.

The Franklin County Athletic Department and the coaches understand the following plan is subject to change as more information becomes available.  The athletic teams will follow the listed guidelines from July 6 – August 15, 2020.  Recommendations come from the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA), the Governor of Indiana and the local Franklin County COVID Task Force.

If an athlete completed a physical last year on the approved IHSAA form, he/she does not have to complete one for this year.  This includes incoming freshmen.  Each athlete will have to submit the 2020-2021 IHSAA Health History Update Questionnaire and Consent & Release CertificateIf an athlete checks yes to any of the health history questions, he/she will be required to complete a physical.  Please click on the following link to access this form: IH- IHSAA Health History Update Questionnaire and Consent & Release Certificate (3) (2)

Phase I July 6-July 19, 2020

All students and staff will be trained using CDC resources on the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 prior to participating in workouts or practices.

The following guidelines will be in place for phase I:

  • Summer conditioning is Voluntary.  If a student does not feel safe participating, he/she will not be held accountable.
  • Each sport may have two practices per week (3 hour maximum) and not on consecutive days.
  • An athlete may also take part in four conditioning sessions per week.  No sport specific equipment is allowed.  Cross country is conditioning.  This sport will fall under the “4 conditioning sessions per week model.”  These sessions cannot be more than 2 hours.
  • When an athlete reports, he/she will check in at a designated area where a coach will check their temperature with the provided UV Thermometers and fill out the required checklist.  If any student checks yes on the checklist, he/she will be sent home.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at check in and throughout practice and conditioning.
  • Each student will be required to bring their own water bottle with their name on it.  No sharing of water bottles.  If a student forgets their water bottle the athletic department will have water bottles available for use. Water fountains will be turned off.
  • Students should not share towels, clothing, shoes, etc.
  • During Phase I, all coaches who are indoors will wear masks.
  • During Phase I, all coaches who may be in close contact with students and staff will wear face coverings.
  • Students, when not involved in vigorous physical activity and when practical should wear face coverings.  Students will be asked to wear face masks to practice and once he/she leaves the facility.
  • During Phase I, locker rooms and dugouts will not be used.  Students must come dressed for practice and conditioning.  Students will be encouraged to shower at home.
  • Students will be kept in smaller groups as much as possible.
  • Students will be required to leave school grounds immediately after practice.  No congregating in the parking lot.
  • All equipment used that day will be sanitized after practice.  When practical, equipment will be sanitized during practice sessions if not in use.
  • The weight room will not be used during Phase I.
  • No scrimmages will be allowed with other teams.
  • Winter and spring sports coaches will be done working with all fall athletes at the end of Phase I.
  • Students will be reminded to not high five, and team “breakdowns” during or after practice are not allowed.

Phase II July 20 – August 15, 2020

The following guidelines will be in place for Phase II:

  • Preference will be given to all fall sports athletes during Phase II.
  • Summer conditioning is VOLUNTARY until August 3, 2020.
  • The time restriction in Phase I is removed.  Coaches and athletes will practice under normal summer hours.
  • Each student will be required to bring their own water bottles with their name on it.  No sharing of water bottles.  If a student forgets their water bottle the athletic department will have water bottles available for use. Water fountains will be turned off.
  • Students should not share towels, clothing, shoes, etc.
  • Indoor coaches will no longer be required to wear a face covering.
  • Medical staff will be required to wear a face covering when in close contact with students.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available and frequent use will be required during practice.
  • The weight room will be used during Phase II with spotters.  No team will have more than 25 athletes in the weight room at one time.
  • Students will be kept in small groups as much as possible.
  • Students will be required to leave school grounds immediately after practice.  No congregating in the locker room or parking lot.
  • All equipment used that day will be sanitized after practice.  When practical, equipment will be sanitized during practice sessions if not in use.
  • The locker room will be used during Phase II.  The Football team will release players in waves to keep the locker room at or below 50% capacity.
  • One scheduled scrimmage in Phase II.  Volleyball vs Centerville, August 12, 2020.  No spectators will be allowed.
