Game Recap

The Franklin County Wildcats started off strong and kept their foot on the gas pedal on Friday night in a dominating 54-35 victory. Brady Bogan making his first ever varsity start came out with a bang as on the third play of the game, Bogan hit James Tucker for a 68 yard catch and run touchdown to put the Cats on top, 6-0. Then, following a fumble recovery by Michael Bohman on the Trojans first play of the game, Bogan found Blake Jewell in the back of the endzone on a sliding 15 yard touchdown catch to put the Cats up 12-0. However, the Trojans bounced back with 40 yard touchdown pass on fourth down from Williamson to Bumbalough. Then, on the Cats first offensive play of the second quarter, Mitchell Orschell broke loose for a 73 yard touchdown run to give the Cats an 18-7 lead. The Trojans again bounced back with a 9 yard touchdown pass from Williamson to Bumbalough to cut the lead to 18-14. Then, to continue his monster game, Mitchell Orschell took the ensuing kickoff back 91 yards for a touchdown and then ran in the two point conversion to give the Cats a 26-14 lead that they would take into the half. On the Trojans opening drive of the second half, they lined up for a 44 yard field goal, but the Cats blocked it and returned the ball back to about their 40 yard line. Mitchell Orschell then took one in for a 29 yard TD run to extend the lead to 32-14. Mitchell Orschell then broke another run for 42 yards down to the 1 yard line before Bogan runs it in from a yard out on the QB sneak. The two point conversion completed on a pass from Bogan to Tucker for a 40-14 lead in the third quarter. New Castle scored again with a 4 yard TD pass from Williamson to Bumbalough, but the Cats still led 40-21. Bogan runs another one in from 4 yards out, and Cody Hurst makes the extra point to give the Cats a 47-21 lead. New Castle continued to battle with another touchdown catch by Bumbalough to make it 47-29. However, Orschell runs in his third of the day for a 54-29 lead. Williamson runs one in for a TD to make it 54-35, and that is where the Cats will hold on for their opening win of the season. The Wildcats improve to 1-0 on the year with a big road victory. The Cats will be back in action next at Connersville Spartans (1-0) on next Friday, August 25th, at 7:00 for the Battle of the Water Keg.
