On Thursday night, Dylan Little and Braydon Ertel battled Centerville High School in the individual state tournament. The winner of the match would be the 2016 Individual Sectional Champions. When these two teams played during the regular season, the Wildcats won the match (7-6(7-3), 6-0). The Cats started off strong in the match with a break of serve to go up 5-3. However, the Bulldogs battled back and tied the set at 5-5. The set ended up in a tiebreak which was dominated by the Wildcats to give them a 7-6(7-4) victory. However, in the second set, the Bulldogs were able to come out of the gates running. The Dogs started off the set with a 3-0 lead before finishing it off at 6-3 to send it to a third set. This would be only the second time throughout the entire season that Dylan and Braydon have dropped a set. But again in the third set, the Bulldogs came out with all of the momentum. They started out with a 4-0 lead in the third set, but the Cats would mount a comeback. The Cats won the next three games to send the match back to on serve a 4-3 before losing the next game. At 5-3, the Cats were able to break a serve and then hold a serve to tie the match at 5-5 again. The Dogs were able to take a 6-5 lead, and they had two match points in the game. However, amazing hustle by Dylan and Braydon kept them in the match to send it to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, it was all Wildcats. They started off with a 4-0 lead, and this early lead was able to help them finish off the tiebreak at 7-3. This win improved the overall record to 19-0 on the season. We asked Braydon Ertel about the comeback, “When we were down 0-4 in the third set, I thought we were done. Then, I heard all of our fans screaming as loud as they could, and I turned to Dylan and said, ‘we can do this!’ The fans really fueled our comeback and kept our confidence up when we were down.” The Cats will move onto Individual Regionals on Saturday, October 15th, at Fishers High School at 10:00 a.m. The Cats will be facing Greenfield-Central so we need all of the Wildcat fans to come down to Fishers to support our boys as they look to advance to the State Tournament.
