Game Recap

On Friday, October 21, the Franklin County Wildcats (6-3) took on the South Dearborn Knights (0-9) at Franklin County for the first round of the sectional tournament. When the Cats hosted the Knights during the regular season, the Wildcats were able to win 42-6. This made the Cats the clear favorites heading into the game. FC was able to start out strong with Johnathan Hagerty hitting Stone Laughlin for an 11 yard TD pass. The Cats took a 6-0 lead after the missed 2-point conversion. On the next drive, the Cats took the ball down the field 98 yards. The drive was capped off with a 2 yard TD run by Travis Mozena. This gave the Cats a 12-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Starting the second quarter, Johnathan Hagerty ran one in from 2 yards out, and he ran in the two point conversion on the next play to give the Cats a 20-0 lead. Then, Hagerty hit Stone Laughlin for the second time for a 25 yard touchdown pass to give the Cats a 26-0 lead. Finally, the Cats were able to execute the two-minute drill to perfection at the end of the first half as Blake Ripperger hit a 23 yard field goal to end the half. This gave the Cats a 29-0 lead at the break. In the third quarter, Mitchell Orschell ran in 2 scores from 8 yards and 14 yards out respectively. The Cats took a 42-0 lead at the break before putting in their JV in the fourth quarter so that they could gain experience. In the fourth quarter, the Knights were able to connect on a 29 yard TD pass from Adam Dixon to Luke Utterback to score a useless touchdown at the end of the fourth quarter. The Cats dominated for a 42-7 victory to move on to the sectional semifinals. Their next game will be at East Central High School next Friday night. Come out and support the Cats as they try to make the sectional finals.
